In short
How working together works, written to be read. Every job gets a written quote first, and a signed proposal or agreement always takes precedence over this page. You own what you pay for, response times are targets rather than guarantees, and I never hold your accounts, domain or code hostage.
These are the plain-English terms for working with Göedelworks (Ethan Goedelman). A signed proposal or agreement always takes precedence over this page.
1. This website
The content here is provided as-is, for information. Prices on the site are typical ranges and starting points, not quotes: every engagement is priced in a written proposal before work starts, and if the proposal differs from the site, the proposal governs. Use of the site itself is covered by the terms of use.
2. Payment
- Projects: 40% to start, 40% at working demo, 20% at launch. Projects over $10k can be split monthly.
- Packages and plans: IT packages are billed on completion; care plans monthly in advance. Cancel anytime with 30 days' notice.
- Hourly work: billed in 15-minute increments on weekly invoices, with a 2-hour minimum for software work and, for IT, a 30-minute minimum remote or a 1-hour minimum on-site. After-hours and weekend emergencies are billed at 1.5×.
Pass-through costs. Hardware, software licences, subscriptions, domain fees and other third-party costs are either bought by you directly or passed through at cost with your written approval first; they are never marked up silently. Travel. Travel included within 25 miles of Orlando or St. Augustine; beyond that, quoted.
3. Your side
I need timely access to the systems involved and timely decisions. You keep your own backups of your data unless a backup service is explicitly part of our engagement. Licences and subscriptions for third-party software and services (Google, Microsoft, hosting and the like) are yours: in your name, and yours to keep current.
4. IT & tech support
I do the work with care and document it in writing. Hardware, networks, third-party services (Google, Microsoft, internet providers, other vendors) and your data are outside my control, so I can’t guarantee against hardware failure, vendor outages or data loss. I will recommend backups and, if engaged, set them up and verify that a restore works.
Access. I work in your accounts only with your permission, use a password manager for any credentials you share, remove my access when we're done unless you keep me on a plan, and never hold your passwords or your domain hostage — you own everything. I use the minimum access the work needs, and you can revoke it at any time.
Out of scope. Running network cable or installing low-voltage wiring, board-level and screen repairs, and enterprise networks are outside what I do; when a job needs one of them, I’ll diagnose the problem and refer you to someone qualified.
5. Response times and emergencies
Response times are targets during business hours, not guarantees. Care-plan targets for IT issues — Essentials: next business day; Growth: same business day; Partner: same day, 2-hr target in business hours; IT-only Lite: next business day. Software requests follow the plan’s own target on the pricing page. An emergency means something that stops your business from operating — no internet, no email, the point-of-sale down, a suspected break-in to an account — not a routine request that happens to be urgent. After-hours and weekend emergencies at 1.5×. Remote fixes are same or next business day. I’m one engineer, so emergency work outside business hours is best effort.
6. Ownership
Accounts, domains and hosting are set up in your name. The code and designs I make for you are yours once they’re paid for. I may reuse general know-how and code that isn’t specific to you. I never hold accounts, domains or code hostage.
7. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, my total liability for an engagement is limited to the fees you paid me for that engagement in the three months before the claim. I’m not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as lost profits or business interruption.
8. No licence or insurance claims
Nothing on this site or in a proposal is a claim of a professional licence or of an insurance policy. If your work needs either, tell me before we start and we’ll work out together whether I’m the right fit.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, USA. Any dispute is heard in Orange County or St. Johns County, Florida.
10. Changes and contact
If these terms change, I’ll update the date above; work already under a proposal keeps the terms it was agreed under. Questions go to ethan@goedelworks.com. How I handle information is covered in the privacy notice.
